all posts by Eran EtzionEran Etzion served as Deputy Head of Israel’s National Security Council at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Head of Policy Planning at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs. He took part in peace negotiations with the Palestinians and Syria, and was a member of the select team that planned Israel’s disengagement
from Gaza.
Etzion was the professional point person for Israel’s strategic dialogue with the United States and led similar dialogues with many other countries. He
dealt with core national security issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, Syria, Lebanon, and more.
He was the first to design and implement a Strategic ‘Net Assessment’ process for the Foreign Ministry. After leaving public service, he served as CEO of the Forum for Strategic Dialogue, turning it into a key platform for direct, informal engagement between Israel, leading European countries, and NATO.
Etzion also led the annual strategic political-security simulation exercise at Israel’s National Defense College. He is a Non-Resident Fellow at the Middle
East Institute (MEI) in Washington, D.C.
He writes, lectures, and frequently appears in Israeli and international media on national security and foreign policy issues.
