“Netanyahu’s false narratives and Trump’s dominance over Israeli decision-making leave Israelis baffled. As Israel celebrated its 78th Independence Day this week, unclarity loomed over whether the wars with Iran and Hezbollah are about to resume, or whether the ceasefire will be prolonged. But, what is becoming clear to more and more Israelis are the dangerous gaps between the prime minister’s exaggerations and reality, as well as between Israel’s quest for self-reliance/freedom of action and its current dependence on US President dictates. Frustration in Israel over Netanyahu’s leadership has been widespread since 7 October 2023. His failures ever since in eliminating security threats from Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas, as well as the repeated missing out on diplomatic opportunities, further consolidates this attitude and becomes a key factor in the opposition’s election campaign.”
