all posts by Eitan IshaiEitan Ishai is the head of the Middle East and North Africa Program at Mitvim Institute. He holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In these days he is a PhD candidate at the Hebrew University. His fields of expertise include modern Lebanon, with an emphasis on questions of Statehood, Sovereignty, Hegemony, Memory and Forgetfulness, and internal social struggles. In his doctoral thesis, Eitan examines the relationship between Lebanese Presidency and Hezbollah, while trying to present a unique model of Hybrid Sovereignty, as well as a historical pattern that has been taking shape in the last two decades concerning the issue of president electing in Lebanon. Eitan previously served as the director of the Middle East and Islamic Studies Association of Israel (MEISAI), and took an active part in diverse academic activities in the fields of the Middle Eastern Studies, Islam and the Arabic language.
